The Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology (SMEP) awarded Dr. Li Cai the Cattell Early Career Research Award. Named after Raymond B. Cattell, an eminent psychologist and a founder of SMEP, this award is given annually to honor an early-career researcher who has made outstanding contributions to multivariate experimental psychology. As an honoree, Dr. Li Cai will deliver an award address at the annual SMEP meeting in 2013.

Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers

President Obama today announced the recipients of this year’s Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. A User’s Guide to Item Response Theory

Drs. Michael Edwards and Li Cai have signed a contract with Guilford Press to write a new book on item response theory called “A User’s Guide to Item Response Theory”. The book will cover a wide variety of topics in item response theory (IRT), from the most basic to the very complex. It will feature an action-oriented approach to IRT with the understanding that most people reading a book about IRT want to be able to competently perform analyses once they are done reading a particular chapter (or set of chapters). In each chapter, the authors will describe the problem at hand, briefly overview other solutions (and provide appropriate references), but then focus on the best way to handle the problem at hand and work fully through examples. The text will be accompanied by extensive worked examples on a website which will have sample data sets, syntax from several IRT programs, and additional references and resources.
